There’s no one way to be deaf, and there’s no standard background for Gallaudet students.
We have team captains from Alabama, valedictorians from California, and CODAs from Michigan. We have third-generation legacy students from deaf families and emerging signers who were the only deaf student in their entire hometown.
Students at Gallaudet gain access to world-class bachelor鈥檚 programs that span every industry and interest.

Across Capitol Hill, dozens of other Gallaudet alumni are impacting policy changes to advance our deaf community from Congressional offices and thinktanks throughout D.C.
You already know D.C. is action packed. But did you know it鈥檚 also one of the world鈥檚 most deaf friendly cities?
Satisfy your appetite at one of the multiple deaf-friendly restaurants on H Street, including Signing Starbucks and deaf-owned Mozzeria.
Experience a night out at the theater with ASL-interpreted and captioned performances available from several theatre companies in the metropolitan area.
Get involved with a national advocacy organization like the DC Office of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing, or The National Association of the Deaf.
Watch captioned videos and movies and take ASL-interpreted tours at Smithsonian Institution museums.
All of the area’s major league sports teams have live captioning on screen so you can easily root for your favorite team!
Spend an entertaining evening at an ASL Open Mic at Busboys & Poets. Recite a poem, perform a song or skit, or crack up the audience with jokes.
