Clerc Center
Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD)
A branch of the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) is a tuition-free demonstration high school open to deaf and hard of hearing students nationwide.
From AP and honors courses to world-class field trips around Washington, D.C., MSSD offers students a rigorous and rewarding academic experience based on the national Common Core State Standards.
We equip our students to reach their highest potential in a fully immersed ASL/English environment. Small class sizes and dedicated teachers provide the optimal environment to build critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Show your Eagle spirit by participating in one of our year-round sports programs. MSSD prides itself on an athletic program that emphasizes character and teamwork above all else. Our students thrive on the field as our coaches mentor them in sportsmanship, health, and wellness that will create a lifelong love for athletics.
As a residential four-year high school program, students nationwide have the opportunity to learn at our institution through on-campus living.
At MSSD, you’ll never run out of fun things to do over the weekend, on- or off-campus.
Whether you’re here for the games, guest speakers, holiday events, or working in the snack bar, the Eagle Zone is your one-stop for fun and entertainment on campus.
Our campus’ vibrant and historical hometown offers any outing you can imagine. Museums, parks, camping, hiking, shopping malls, farmer’s markets, and beach trips are all great ways to fill weekends during your time at MSSD.
Take part in annual celebrations and traditions like Homecoming week and prom! Host events, workshops, and dances. Participate in community service, multicultural activities, and yoga classes.
During their time at MSSD, we want our students to think big and dream bigger. Our services set students up for success that will last them well after their high school years.
Our service providers are always certified or licensed in their specialized area and are fluent in ASL to give your students the best service and prepare them for success!
When your child becomes an Eagle, you also become a part of the MSSD family.
