Education programs prepare students to be professionals in their field interacting and communicating fluently with deaf and hard of hearing people and children with diverse backgrounds. Graduates will be prepared leaders and advocates actively engaging with the people of their community.
Our professors equip students through their expertise and passion for teaching and lead students through all the following.
Our model for teaching is through a reflective method. Not only do we expect students and faculty to work鈥搊r reflect鈥搊ff of each other, but from the very first courses, students will be presented with opportunities to engage in peer teaching during class. Through both individual and group work, this will give students a chance to reflect on their experiences and work.
In addition to internship opportunities, the graduates of our program could qualify for licensure in the District of Columbia Public Schools. This is appealing to any student because this license opens you up to teaching opportunities in the other states that are a part of the District鈥檚 inter-state reciprocity agreement for teacher certification, giving you the advantage of being licensed in multiple states.
We currently offer four graduate-level certificates through the Center for Continuing and Online Education, two of which are aimed at Educators. Our ASL/English Bilingual Early Childhood Deaf Education: Birth to 5, and Educating Deaf Students with Disabilities Certificates have been designed to serve the current and demanding needs of education professionals. With the flexibility of an online workspace and substantially lower tuition costs, our Certificate Programs set professionals up for success! Check with Graduate Admissions to learn more about requirements and procedures to earn your certificate and take the next step in your professional development.
Our strong network of internship locations allows students to take the skills they鈥檝e learned in the classroom and put them to practice in the real world.
